Label information

DataObscura was originally created as a CDR sister label to the Databloem label back in 2002. They existed side by side until the beginning of 2008, when each went their separate ways. At that time the Blue Oasis label was added to DataObscura for releasing pressed CD albums. And so, here we are.

DataObscura and Blue Oasis release what could be called thoughtful contemporary electro-ambient music. This varies from minimal drone and fascinating noise-based works, up to the melodic and mildly rhythmic. We don't release dance music, or excessively darker or industrial forms of ambient. We do, however, like to stretch boundaries ... and we do release some very serious, quality music that rewards multiple listening !

We do pay our artists royalties on sold albums, so you are supporting the artists themselves when you buy our releases. Please point other people to our website rather than share your purchases, this will help keep us small labels in existence. Thanks.

The driving force behind DataObscura is Anthony Paul Kerby (APK), who also composes highly acclaimed music under the names of The Circular Ruins, Nunc Stans, and Lammergeyer. He does a lot of the graphic work and most of the mastering of our releases.

The labels are based in Ontario, Canada. We ship pretty much anywhere. Our shipping costs are very reasonable. See the STORE INFO page for details.
