On Updrafts, Australian sound artist James McDougall serves up another gorgeous helping of scrambled field recordings, reconstructions, brittle textures, warm mechanisms, environmental rumblings, and a host of minute sonic abstractions and abrasions. The aural canvas is a rich shimmering, and sometimes skittering, collage of our human sound-world.  Ripe with details, subtle developments, and underlying ambience, but flowing down unforseen channels like a stream-of-consciousness narrative.

Microtonal and minimal, yet often lush and so very human, Updrafts is a welling up of the sonic world surrounding us every day. It is a testament to a world heard ... but not heard.
