About the Site

This is a new review site for ambient, groove-ambient, drone, experimental, noise, and related forms of contemporary electronic music.
Reviews are sorted by a handy set of categories in the left menu. You can also Search for reviews.

Clicking the + sign next to "Reviews" will open a list of artists who have reviews. Clicking an artist will then show, in the main window, a list of albums reviewed.

If you are a reviewer or writer and would like to post your reviews or articles here on a regular basis, then please Contact Us (main menu). The site is set up so that you can login and post your own reviews.

The aim is to have this site be a general repositiory for ambient related reviews and also for general articles of interest related to ambient music and the electronic music scene in general.

If you are not an official reviewer/writer you can still submit articles using the Submit Review link. This will bring up a basic editor to enter your title and content. In the Article Category section just choose a general category, eg. "Artists", if your artist is not already in the list. If your article is accepted we will add the artist to the category list. If you leave us an email address we will tell you if your review or article is accepted. Email addresses will remain strictly private and will be used only for this purpose. We do accept negative as well as positive reviews. And we of course expect quality writing and that the article be both thoughtful and perceptive.

You will notice grades at the end of some reviews. These are attempts to grade the album’s overall quality in relation to other albums of accepted quality in the same genre and/or by the same artist. They are not simply how much a reviewer likes an album.  Here is the system:

A = Excellent
B = Very good
C = Good
D = Ok
E = Weak
F = Forget it

The site is hosted at DataObscura and maintained by APK.
And, in case you wondered, there is no bias or filtering by me. I simply provide an outlet for writing about ambient music.
